The internet already is an app platform.
This store demonstrates that the original decentralised structure of the internet still exists. These applications run from a Raspberry Pi in my own workspace. They are published from infrastructure under my control and remain freely accessible through an ordinary URL.
Commercial app stores are not a technical necessity. They are a distribution model: a toll gate with admission, provisioning and a mandatory relationship between maker, platform and audience.
A web application can be useful, playful, political or intimate without first becoming a product inside someone else’s store. Artists, organisations and public institutions can publish applications on infrastructure they understand and control.
Centralised and closed systems do not remove risk. They relocate power. The decentralised web still works. For most people, most of the time, it has simply been made harder to see.
Optional browser function
Place a web app on your device
Every work opens directly in a browser. Installation is optional. The browser or operating system provides it, this store does not.
- iPhone or iPad: open the app in Safari, tap Share, then choose Add to Home Screen.
- Android: use the browser menu and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.
- Desktop: use the browser’s install option. In Safari, choose File → Add to Dock.
The same web capability is exposed differently by each platform. That fragmentation is an interface and policy choice, not a technical requirement of these applications.
